MCB OFFICE NEWS

August, 2006

As most of you must know by now, Bill Burris, member of the South Central Ozark Association and past treasurer and public relations chairman of MCB, died on July 31. Flowers were sent by MCB. Our condolences go to his wife, Linda, and Bill’s daughters and grandchildren for their loss.

Amendments and Resolutions:
There are no resolutions this year. However, there are four amendments. We already have them in the office and they will be sent to affiliate presidents or resolutions chairs, members-at-large and to any others upon request soon. The current deadline for them being given to the office for copying and distribution is August 31; however, I am sure we will have them in the mail long before that.

Speaking of Resolutions and Amendments, if your affiliate would prefer these be sent to your Resolutions Chairperson, please call the office and let us know the name of the person that will be the representative for the Convention.

Chronicles:
Sandi and I are working over the different format lists for the Chronicle. We have found that some people are receiving it in two and sometimes even three formats. I, as well as John, believe that to receive the Chronicle in one format is sufficient. Please let the office know if you are receiving it in more than one format which format you prefer. If you do not let us know, then we will choose one for you. In cases where two people in a household are receiving the same format (cassette, large print or Braille), one will be received for them to share.

Cost of our Chronicles are as follow:
each cassette is $1.35;
each large print is $2.98 and
each Braille copy is $11.06.
By each individual receiving one copy, that will cut costs. Some people do also receive it by e-mail which is great and at no additional cost. Please be assured that we do want everyone who wants the Chronicle to have it but at the same time we need to be responsible with how we use our funds.

Convention pre-registration:
Want to save $5.00? If you are coming to the MCB Convention in October, you can pre-register. Either call the office for a pre-registration application or if you have a computer and have the internet you can download the application by going to our web site:
www.missouricounciloftheblind.org
and going to the Forms and Applications link and printing out the application. Complete it by filling in all the blanks and send the completed application, along with your check, to the MCB office before September 15. If you pre-register, registration is $5.00. If you wait and register when you get to the Convention, registration is $10. The cost of the banquet ticket is $20 and the hospitality meal is $1.00. You will not be considered “pre-registered” unless your money accompanies your application.

Officers, Board reps and committee chairs need to complete a pre-registration form for themselves and their driver/guide, but no money needs to be sent as MCB covers these costs. Board reps, officers and committee chairs do need to call the office to let us know how many rooms they need, smoking or nonsmoking. The office needs your reservations by September 12. The deadline for our turning them in to the hotel is September 15.

Special needs:
If there is someone in your affiliate who is hearing-impaired to the extent they need a signer, please have them contact the office by September 15.

September 1:
Membership lists and dues must be in the MCB office by the end of the day on September 1. Dues are two dollars per individual plus ten dollars for each affiliate. Dues for members-at-large are ten dollars per member. This applies to special affiliates as well. This is so we can provide an updated membership list for the Convention in order for people to vote.

E-mail:
If you have recently gotten a computer and have access to the internet, please call the office or send us your e-mail address by e-mailing it to:
moblind@mindspring.com
I would like to have as many of the e-mail addresses as possible.

Believe it or not:
Our flowers are still surviving here at the MCB building. I expected them to die from the extreme heat. I am told they look all right; however, I do understand a few weeds are creeping in.

Bingos:
There were two bingos held here at the building in August. St. Louis Council held one on August 5 and Harmony Lions held one on August 19.

Awnings:
Should you come to the MCB building when it’s raining, you shouldn’t have to stand at the door in the rain. The Building Committee has made arrangements to have awnings installed at the side door and also at the back door. The front door is already protected.

Deaths:
If your affiliate has had a death or deaths during this past year, please call the office by September 15 and let us know their name. These names will be read at the Convention.

RITE has decided to take a bus to the Convention. It will leave from the MCB office at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning, October 19. Anyone wishing to ride the bus should call Angelo Trapasso by September 1. The exact cost is not known as yet. Angelo’s phone number is: 314-351-4624.

Till next month…
